Why did you want to learn to grow?

JG: I spend so much of my day at the computer, getting out to tend to the garden is a great excuse and reminder to step outside, slow down, and tune out all the noise, literally and figuratively.

How has growing made you feel?

Proud! Competent! Alive!

Describe the space you grow in.

JG: I have two raised beds surrounded by a handful of pots at the bottom of my stairs in my apartment building's courtyard.

You’ve had a lot of success! Did you think you had a green thumb?

JG: I thought I had a decent green thumb with indoor plants but felt intimidated by the idea of growing an actual garden, let alone anything from seed.

What's the biggest lesson you've learned from gardening?

JG: Watching plants and flowers grow is incredibly enriching and satisfying on so many levels—maternal, aesthetic, and spiritual, to name a few.

What's your favorite thing you've grown?

JG: Two spectacularly gorgeous dahlias from tubers.

Do you think you'll keep growing?

Heck yes. I thought I'd be a summer flower girl, but I'm head over heels with my winter garden.

Why did you want to learn to grow?

FR: I wanted to find more ways to connect with nature and spend more time outdoors, it's very meditative.

What are three benefits of learning to grow?

Calm, food, sharing.

Describe the space you grow in.

FR: A small raised bed in the backyard, and a tiny plot in my front yard.

You’ve had a lot of success! Did you think you had a green thumb?

FR: Absolutely not. I have always said I have a black thumb. I'm pretty sure my thumb is still a dark grey just masqueraded by Jessica's bright green one.

What's the biggest lesson you've learned from gardening?

FR: Accepting what comes. Learning to let go and let be, and accept the outcome with satisfaction no matter what.

What's your favorite thing you've grown?

FR: Bok choy (because they're tasty and I can feed my kids with it), but I think maybe the Bunny Tails if they ever bloom. They are so so soft.

Do you think you’ll keep growing? Are you inspired to keep going?

Yes and yes! But with Jessica's help - can we plan our spring gardens together?  :)

I’d love to help you grow, too. Reach out to get started at hello@baskergardens.com.
